Writing an Interesting Narrative Essay Introduction
Monday, March 15, 2010 in All About Essay by EssayCapital | No Comments |
Narrative essay assignments are quite flexible in the style of writing. This peculiar feature of a narrative has its own advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that you will get to experiment as much as you want using your creativity while handling a narrative assignment. The disadvantage is that, since you have been given the liberty to use your own creativity to frame the structural components of the narrative, the expectations will be high. The reader will be expecting an outstanding work, starting from the introduction of the essay.
A normal essay introduction usually has certain standard elements – the topic, the subject and the hypothesis. Relevant background information is also expected to be presented in the introduction. These facts are presented plainly in the usual assignments. But in a narrative essay, this will need to be presented in a more interesting manner. It is not necessary at all to present the topic in a clear and precise sentence.
For example, let us imagine that you are dealing with the topic of “an occasion when you realized that you have more foes than friends”. In a narrative essay, this topic can be started off without any direct mention of the topic at all. Some examples would be:
“I had never thought of what I would do if ever caught in a tough situation. With the kind of friends I had and their support, no situation could be too bad…..” Here you are mentioning ‘the friends’ but you are not openly revealing what the topic is. A narrative essay is the only assignment which will give you so much freedom with its frame.
“It was a sunny day as bright and as beautiful as anyone could hope for. When I started off to work that day, I didn’t even have the slightest inclination that my life, my trust and my outlook would all change within the next few hours…” Here you do not even mention your friends. But it is apparent from this line that there is something wrong. It clearly indicates that the story which is going to be narrated will not be a pleasant one.
Even though you can experiment as much as you want, nothing will stop you from putting it across in a plain way, with direct reference to the topic. “ I always used to believe that I have more friends than foes but one incident in my life proved that I was wrong” would be as welcome as any other.
Since there are no mandatory elements in a narrative essay introduction, you can try to be as elusive as you want. You can keep your audience in suspense till you wish to disclose the central theme. It all depends on your creativity. You can put across your thesis statement or the moral of the story in the introduction or if you want to talk of it only in the conclusion, you may do it that way as well.
Without good writing skills, you cannot prepare an outstanding narrative essay. And good writing skills cannot be developed overnight. You will need to read a lot and practice creative and effective writing to be able to perform well in your essay project. If you need any help with preparing your narrative assignment, our academic writers will be glad to assist you.

Understanding Narrative Essay Prompts
Sunday, March 14, 2010 in All About Essay by EssayCapital | No Comments |
Most narrative assignments come with a choice of prompts which the students can choose from. Deciphering the essay prompt appropriately is the key to understanding the objective of the assignment. It is needless to say that without understanding the objective of an assignment you cannot prepare an impressive one. Hence while facing a narrative essay assignment, your initial task is to accurately understand the essay prompt.
Essay prompts will not always be too elaborate. The level to which a prompt is simplified depends mostly on the level of education. If the prompt for your narrative essay is not clear enough, it can be believed that our teacher intents to evaluate your ability to interpret an essay prompt also.
While given the prompt options for a narrative assignment, read through each of them slowly and carefully before choosing one for yourself. If you choose a wrong prompt and realize that you had wrongly interpreted it, at a later stage of your essay writing process, it might be too late to go back and change it. Hence if you are not being able to understand any of the prompts, you must consult your teacher and clarify it before choosing your topic.
A narrative essay prompt usually indicates the type of essay expected and what kind of incident would suit the purpose. For example, if the prompt asks for a narrative which projects the way a human being discovers his strength in adverse conditions, you will have to find a situation which is ‘unexpected and shocking for the person who faces it’. You cannot possibly use a pleasant story or event for it. Nor can you use a theme in which the character faces a stressful situation which was expected, like the death of a family member who has been fatally ill for a long time.
Narrative essays are flexible in terms of writing style. But when it comes to serving the purpose as indicated in the prompt, narrative assignments are most inflexible. You must ensure that the flexibility in the nature of narration does not affect the focus of the essay prompt.
Some essay prompts would also mention if the story must be autobiographical, as well. Getting the instructions on this right is important too. If asked to find an incident from your own life to prove the point, it is important that you stick to your own personal experiences. Autobiographical narratives have specific objectives. If you are not sure of how to write it accordingly or if you cannot think of any incident which suits the purpose, it is better to check out another option.
Narrative essays test your creativity as well. Flexing the prompt to suit your interests without affecting its objective is a very impressive way of handling a narrative assignment. Narrative essay prompts are meant to be subject to individual interpretation and the more creative your interpretation is, the better.
Studying samples of narrative essays along with their prompts would help you understand your options better. If you need assistance with any part of your essay assignment, do let us know.

Facts to Know about Narrative Essay Writing
Monday, March 8, 2010 in All About Essay by EssayCapital | No Comments |
Narrative essay writing is one of the most interesting types of academic essay assignments. This type of essay is given mainly to literature and arts students. If you know the basic aspects of a narrative technique, you can consider half the stress to be off your narrative assignment. And if you also possess good writing skills, this assignment can be handled very easily and impressively. Writing or narrative skills are always an asset, not only in academia but also in the professional sector. Hence it is better that you start practicing effective writing as soon as you become aware of the need of it.
You will find numerous definitions for a ‘narration’. But all of them will point at the basic fact that a narration is all about presenting a story or a chain of events which are inter-related. Isolated facts cannot be narrated unless there is some aspect to link it or if each one can be narrated separately. This is the most basic aspect to understand about narration.
Even though you use verbal narration everyday in your lives, narrating an incident verbally is quite different from narrating it in writing. While narrating an event or s story verbally, you need not worry about the quality of the words you use or even the grammatical structure of your narration. But while preparing a narrative essay, since your reader will not be seeing you or hearing the verbal narrative, your task of conveying the matter effectively becomes difficult. You might have experienced difficulty in conveying facts effectively even over a telephone. So, it is needless to say how tough it would be to convey it in writing. Over a phone, the other person is at least hearing your voice and hence absorbing the expressions through the vocal medium. But in a writing assignment, all you have to convey your feelings and view to the reader is your words.
Learning how to use words effectively is the first step to impressive essay writing. And when it is a narrative essay that you are writing you need to employ not just effective but also powerful use of words to bring out the emotions fully. A good narrative assignment is one that is interesting to the reader. It will not help if the event or story you are narrating is interesting if you do not know how to put it across in an interesting manner. And you cannot express yourself well enough in writing if you are not good with words. That determines the importance of mastering the art of writing before attempting a narrative assignment.
An imaginative mind can lay a strong base for an interesting narrative. While writing a narrative essay, it is not enough to aim at telling a story, but you must aim at taking the reader through the story. One occasion where narratives become boring is when the readers have to struggle to follow what is going on in the narrative. You must not leave a chance for them to have to strain to follow your narrative. Clarity of narration is one of the most important factors which contribute to effective essay writing. Your reader must be able to follow you easily to be able to enjoy your narrative.
Taking a look at essay samples will give you a good idea of how to write an essay. But an impressive narrative essay requires reasonably good creative writing skills. If you need help with your essay assignment, our professional academic writers will be happy to assist you.

Developing the Topic of your Classification Essay
Tuesday, February 23, 2010 in All About Essay by EssayCapital | No Comments |
The most important part of a writing assignment is that of developing a topic into a theory and thereafter into a fact. Each assignment requires the topic to be developed using a different method and with a different objective in mind. In a classification essay the objective is to classify or categorize the topic. Hence the topic will have to be developed into a theory using the method of classification. It is necessary to know how to go about it because to reach an accurate conclusion, the method needs to be correct.
Before you even start working on the essay outline, you will need to determine the classification principle and the various stages of classification. Without any idea of where to start you cannot work on a classification principle. Classification is the most organized procedure and without having at least a rough idea of how to go about it, you will not be able to make any progress.
Even though there are many approaches and methods you can consider, to get to a classification thesis, the easiest and the simplest one is that of going from one level of classification to the other. Start by finalizing the principle you wish to use for your classification essay. For example, let us consider that your topic is “the region specific local produce of a particular state”. You can classify it on the basis of many principles. It could be classified on the base of ‘organic’ and ‘non-organic’ foods, the four seasons – as almost all vegetables and fruits are seasonal, and so on. Hence the first task involved in developing a topic through classification is that of determining the base of classification or the classifying principle.
From there you can proceed to classify each one into the first category and then further into “vegetables”, “fruits”, “grains”, “pulses”, “dairy”, “spices” and so on. Then you must narrow it down further. For example; under vegetables, you must list the vegetables which are grown in that state. Remember to stick to the classifying principle at each of the stages of classifying the topic as it is the base of your essay. If you accidentally step away from it you will lose track of the classification and end up straying further and further away from the focal point.
The main aspect to remember while developing a topic for a classification essay is that you should not miss out on any categories. If you do, you might end up with an inaccurate theory which doesn’t make sense to the reader. The transition from one level to the other must also be sensible and legible. You might find some tips on the various levels of classification to be used in your essay prompt. If so, it will help you a lot to follow those tips or instructions as it would have been given with due consideration to the objective of the particular assignment.
Classification essays cannot be completed overnight. It is a process which needs a lot of time and patience. Taking a look at some essay samples might give you a good idea of how to go about it. If you are still confused, you must consider taking help from your teacher or professional academic writers to complete your essay assignment.

Tips on Preparing the Body Paragraphs of a Classification Essay
Sunday, February 21, 2010 in All About Essay by EssayCapital | No Comments |
The structure of an essay has been designed to help the author to convey the matter easily and also to help the audience follow the author effortlessly. While the introduction introduces the topic, the body paragraphs elaborately discuss it and the conclusion wraps up the discussion. The content that goes into the structure varies with the type of essay and the topic. In a classification essay, the discussion in the body paragraphs must be aimed at explaining the classification theory and process to the audience.
Even though you will be mentioning the classification principle in the essay introduction, you will have to explain it in more detail in the body of your classification essay. Since the classification would be based on this principle, it becomes necessary to explain it in the first body paragraph itself. Starting the first body paragraph with a mention of classification principle will also link the introduction to the body paragraphs. It will also lay the base for the further discussion.
You can present your classification in many ways. You can either categorize it by separating them into columns or you can write them as continuous paragraphs. Columns are easier to organize and convey the matter, considering that it is an essay, it would be great if you can present the matter effectively through paragraphed text. But in order to accomplish the task of explaining the classification through paragraphs you need good writing skills. You also need to know how to go about doing it.
To start with, in the first body paragraph of your classification essay, explain the classification principle. Your explanation should be clear and detailed. The reader should understand what your classification is based on, to follow the discussion in the next few paragraphs. After conveying the principle, link it to your topic. Explain how it works for your topic. For example, if you are classifying the fashion trends of a country, on the basis of the climate, you can start by linking this principle to the clothes. You can say “The clothes preferred by the people of this country can be divided into three based on the climate. The most preferred winter garments are …, summer garments are…, monsoon wear are… and spring clothes are…”
Once the principle is linked to the topic, the rest of the process becomes easy for you and the readers alike. After the first body paragraph, divide each of these aspects into separate paragraphs. Talk about winter garments in one, summer garments in another and spring and monsoon clothes in separate paragraphs. Remember that you will have to aim at bringing the points together and confirming the theory or thesis you stated in the introduction.
Classification essays are all about evaluating the topic according to its specific features. Your evaluation can be useful only if conveyed successfully to the reader. And effective presentation is the key to conveying the matter in a classification assignment. Hence, make sure that you have framed the body paragraphs of your essay in a well-organized way. If you are not sure of how to go about your essay assignment, you may consult our academic writers for further assistance.

Writing an Interesting Introduction to a Classification Essay
Saturday, February 20, 2010 in All About Essay by EssayCapital | No Comments |
The introduction of all types of assignments should be written with due consideration to the requirements of the paragraph. When it comes to a classification essay, it is important that you provide all the necessary information expected by your readers, without fail. If not, it will make it extremely difficult for them to follow your essay.
The matter included in the introduction varies slightly according to the type of assignment and the intellectual level of the audience addressed. Hence it is necessary to have an overall idea of what could make an interesting introduction for a classification essay while handling that type of assignment. The first thing to understand is that the kind of introduction would depend upon the nature and objective of the essay.
The first line of the introduction should be written with the objective of introducing the topic to the reader in an interesting manner. You can also give additional background information on the topic. That will enable the reader to follow the rest of the essay in a better way. But stick to information which is relevant to the classification. If you mention irrelevant aspects of the topic in the introduction, it will distract the reader from the focus of the essay. And do not elaborate too much as essay introductions are supposed to be short paragraphs of five to eight lines. And do not give away too much either as it would kill the curiosity of your reader.
In order to effectively convey your theory in a classification assignment, you must introduce your reader to your concept of classification as well. This concept which would form the base of your classification can be termed as the classification principle. A classification essay topic can be dealt with from various angles based on different principles. It is important to let the reader know which angle or principle you have used to classify your topic, in order to make a fair judgment, possible. Hence, the classification principle must be included in the introductory paragraph. It must be conveyed legibly in such a way that the reader will be clear about what perspective to use to understand your essay.
The theory which you formed out of the classification should be stated as the thesis. This would be the last line of the introductory paragraph. The theory must not be stretched beyond a single sentence. It should be stated clearly and comprehensibly. This, being the focal point of your essay, must be conveyed properly. If your reader does not understand what the focus of your essay is, they shall not find the essay interesting at all.
The principle of classification of an object or a topic will change with the person who handles the assignment as there are very few people who look at an object through the same perspective. Hence the introduction of your classification essay must project the main features of the essay which include the topic, the classification principle and the theory. Introductory paragraphs give the readers the first impression about your essay. Hence it is necessary to frame it in an interesting way. As the old saying goes, “the first impression is the best impression”.
