Writing a Personal Experience Essay
Friday, November 20, 2009 in All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
Out of the different types of assignments given to students, one would be that of a personal experience essay. As the name suggests, this essay focuses on a real experience that the person has had in the past. It comes under narrative essays, as you are narrating an experience. It is quite similar to an autobiographic essay.
There is one very obvious difference between an autobiographic essay and a personal experience essay. The former concentrates on you, where as, the latter has its focus on the experience you have had. To put it in another way, you could also say, a personal experience essay is more about what life has taught you; but an autobiographical essay talks about the kind of person you are and the way you lived your life. Even though it is not much of a difference, it is good if you understand where exactly to draw the line between both.
The most important thing to remember while writing an essay related to your own life is that it is not easy to make it interesting to another person. Personal experiences can be interesting while communicating verbally or between a group of people who knows each other. But while addressing a crowd who knows nothing about you, it is not so easy to make your life sound interesting. There is no reason why your experience should sound appealing to a stranger, unless you present it so. Hence, the most important part of writing an interesting personal experience essay is the presentation.
When you are given the theme, look back to see what all comes into your mind immediately. From the few you might be able to remember, pick one that is closest to the given topic or theme. Try to look at your choice from another person’s point of view to determine how well the experience matches with the topic. This is necessary because you may not be able to judge your own life very well from your own view point.
For a personal experience essay, it is not mandatory to give a separate introduction. If you feel that your experience needs an introduction, you can go ahead and give one. But you can also start off straight away with your narration of your experience. But make the first line intriguing enough to make the reader inquisitive about the rest of the content.
Your body paragraphs should be rich in narration. You should be able to take the reader through the incident rather than tell them about it. If you have good narration skills, a personal experience essay will indeed be a very easy assignment for you. But if you are not one of the lucky ones who can keep people still, for hours while they are talking, you should find out what you can do to improve your narration skills.
Your personal experience essay should be concluded with a brief note on what you learned from that experience and why you still remember it so vividly. Try not to include fresh parts of the story in the conclusion. Don’t end your assignment abruptly. Remember, a smooth ending is as important as a good beginning.

Writing an Essay on The Tempest
Thursday, November 19, 2009 in All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
William Shakespeare, the most celebrated playwright of all ages, has contributed so much to English literature that his works are considered a necessary part of all levels of English education. You will find that his plays have simple story outlines. But the complex plots within the story and the most extra ordinary narration methods make his plays the best among all literary works. ‘The Tempest’ is one of his comedy themed plays and also, one of the most famous among the lot.
To write an essay on the play, the first thing you need to figure out is the outline of the story. What makes this play stand out from the rest is the involvement of magic, in the plot. And this very fact makes the plot a bit complex, but all the more interesting.
The opening scene of ‘The tempest’ portrays the scene of a storm, referring to the title. We meet some of the main characters of the play, in this scene. King Alonso of Naples and his entourage, consisting of his brother Sebastian and his ill-natured friend Antonio and The king’s counselor Gonzalo, who is a gentleman, are caught in the storm. The storm splits their ship in half.
In the next scene you are introduced to Prospero, the rightful king of Milan, who was overthrown by his brother Antonio with the help of Alonso. He, with his, then two year old daughter Miranda, was abandoned in the sea and they had found refuge in this island where they have been living ever since. Miranda is now a fifteen year old girl, beautiful and kind in nature.
We soon learn that the tempest was magically conjured by Prospero, who was a magician. Even though he didn’t wish any ill to his enemies, he wanted them to accept their mistakes and repent. King Alonso and his entourage are spread out in the tiny island which contributes to the complexity of the plot of ‘The Tempest’.
Soon we meet Ferdinand, son of King Alonso, who is, but, a very good-natured and handsome young man. He meets Miranda, according to Prospero’s plan and both fall in love instantly. The romance between Miranda and Ferdinand adds to the beauty of the play. Prospero, who is happy for his daughter, does not reveal it till the end of the play. He puts Ferdinand through a few tests to make sure that he has not inherited any of the negative sides of Alonso.
Towards the end of the play, all characters come together. King Alonso, regretful about his past life, apologizes to Prospero and the play ends on a happy note with the marriage of Miranda and Ferdinand. Prospero returns to Milan, restored as the duke.
This is just a very thin outline of the story of the play ‘The Tempest’. While writing an essay on the play, you will have to study each of the scenes in detail and try to interpret the words of the great playwright in the best possible manner. Your essay will definitely show how much you know of the story. If you find the plot too difficult to follow, you should take advice from your teachers or someone else who can offer help with your assignment.

How to Write an Opinion Essay
All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
Opinion essay is a type of argumentative essay where you offer your opinion on the topic and establish it with relevant arguments. There are a lot of factors which contribute to a well-written assignment. Fulfilling the objective of the assignment is the most important criteria, of all.
An opinion essay will focus on your opinion on the given topic. This opinion, which might be positive or negative, should have enough factual evidence to support it. It does not matter if you prove that your opinion is right or not. What matters is that you make it worthwhile for your reader or audience. It is easy to convey your opinion. But the difficult part is to make it sound like an idea worth considering, to another person.
Opinion essays come with all kinds of subjects and topics as each individual has a different opinion about almost everything. There are many ways of presenting your opinion about a topic. You may apply a mixture of all those in your essay or focus on one particular method. Either way, an effective presentation will leave an impression of your opinion on the reader.
One way to go about expressing your opinion is to use comparison. Compare your opinion with that of others which are contradictory to your view and state why your opinion on the topic is different. You do not necessarily have to produce solid evidence but good evidence is always the best support for an opinion or argument. Consider that you could be arguing or opining against the popular opinion, while using comparison. Hence it will be ideal to provide some kind of proof to show that yours is the more sensible one.
You can also illustrate your idea in a manner whereby you use sources which offer similar or supportive opinion, in order to prove your view. This will suit those who have a tight deadline because it is easier to convey your idea using supportive sources than contradictory ones. Contradictory method will be more effective and impressive as it will show the depth of your knowledge of the subject and topic. It will also make you sound confident and sure of what you are talking about. But it will definitely take much more time and effort on your part to successfully use that method.
Using both supportive and contradictory sources together will be the best option, if you have the time and patience to do that. When you apply both these in your opinion essay, it becomes very easy to convey your opinion and make it sound interesting.
Opinions essays are all about your opinion but what makes it interesting is the way you present it. Understanding the particular type of essay project assigned to you is the first step to being able to write a good essay. It is up to you to make your readers want to read on till the end. Conveying your idea effectively is a skill you will need, in order to handle your academic writing assignments.

Picking A Topic or Theme for an Autobiographical Essay
All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
Autobiographical writing assignments are essays or research papers which explain or evaluate a particular subject with reference to the writer’s experiences. If you have been asked to write an autobiographical essay, there are certain things which can help you handle the project well.
First and foremost, check your guidelines to see how much liberty you have with the technical aspects of the project. Figure out what the objective of your professor was, in assigning an autobiographical essay to you instead of a normal one. Usually the aim of such a project is to enhance the students’ power to evaluate a situation by using his or her experiences as a source. Even though it sounds very easy, it is not exactly so.
If you have been given the option of choosing a topic for yourself, you need to spend some time to think about it and choose a good topic which you can turn into an interesting essay. Since the task is to look into your own life, it can get difficult to concentrate on a particular theme. But focus is absolutely necessary for this type of assignment, especially when you are choosing the topic.
Narrating random incidents from your life is not difficult but finding an experience which others would find interesting and worth listening to, is the tough part. It is quite natural to feel that each of your life’s experiences is more impressive and interesting than the rest. But since you cannot give your entire life history in an autobiographical essay, you have to close in on one single experience which is interesting and enlightening at the same time.
To make sure that your essay has served some kind of a purpose, ask yourself:
- Why would you tell a group of students or teachers about this particular incident?
- What is there, in the story, that might be of interest to anyone other than yourself?
You may check the conclusion of your essay to figure out what point it has managed to convey or what fact it has established. If your conclusion sounds empty and you fail to find anything relevant to fill it with, then you might as well reconsider the topic you have chosen and rewrite the essay.
Remember that an interesting essay is not what sounds interesting to you but that which appeals to the reader or the audience. To make your essay interesting, you have to apply your narration skills while preparing the draft. And for that, you may follow these simple tips:
- Do not give away too much in the introduction.
- Conclude the story before the conclusion.
- Do not discuss the essence of your essay, the way you discuss the moral of a story.
- Convey the moral indirectly, in an interesting way, in the conclusion.
While handling an academic writing assignment, pay due attention to your written language, because the presentation of a topic is very important.
A good autobiographical essay should have an introduction which will make the reader eager to read on, body paragraphs which are enlightening and a conclusion which can leave a lasting impression on the reader.

Writing an Autobiographical Essay
Thursday, November 12, 2009 in All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
Considering the complexity of the art of writing, it is not surprising that the writing assignments come in so many different genres and types. Each one is designed for a different purpose and will be evaluated in accordance with that particular aim. Autobiographical essays and research papers come up in almost all the subjects. You have to first understand what it is about and what it is aimed at, before you start the research process.
Autobiographical essays are designed to evaluate the capability of a person to relate one of his or her own experience to a particular topic and extract valuable essence out of it. For this essay you will pick a situation from your own life and consider a particular topic in relation to that. This type of essay gets taken for granted because it sounds like the easiest of assignments.
Experiences are always the best teachers and it is the best way to understand and learn life’s lessons. But when it comes down to relating your experiences to a particular topic effectively, it is not as easy as it might sound.
Life’s experiences are scattered and of different nature. When you start writing this essay, you might find that you have had more than one experience which can be related to the topic in question. But do not make the mistake of quoting all of those. Try to focus on one most appropriate experience or a maximum of two experiences, if you find two of them equally relevant. More than that will make your essay look unfocused and disorganized.
It is very important to make sure that the situation you choose is most relevant to the topic in question. To find that out, you will have to take a look at your own life, through a different perspective. You will have to see your life from another person’s point of view. This is absolutely necessary due to the fact that it is very difficult for humans to judge their own experiences without the interference of a biased view.
You might be able to complete this essay assignment without much external research depending on the topic and unless the guidelines specify so. But you can’t say there will be no research involved at all. Here you will be doing a research using your own life as a source. It is an interesting assignment depending on how comfortable you are about discussing the topic in question from an autobiographical point of view.
Autobiographical essay requires quite a bit of writing skill because it is very difficult to make your life look interesting to someone else. When you have to prove a point using your experiences, it is even more difficult. You have to use your language very tactfully in order to bring the best out of your life’s experience and make it fit effectively into the frame for the purpose.
If you are not very good with words you might have to take professional help. Because it is not possible to make autobiographical essays sound interesting by plainly laying out the points. It has to be beautifully written and well-presented to make it an impressive one.

How to go About Argumentative Essay Writing
Wednesday, November 11, 2009 in All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
Argumentative essays are aimed at proving your point of view or your stance on a particular topic. There are a few things which should be considered while handling this type of a writing project. Understanding the nature and writing requirements of an assignment is absolutely necessary if you wish to produce an outstanding essay.
Argumentative essay writing is a bit different from other types of essay assignments. A normal essay project will require you to write on a particular lesson or text book you are studying. Your essay will be based on facts published by someone else, which you are only expected to learn and understand. But when it is an essay of argumentative nature, you are facing a slightly tougher task.
The characteristics and content of this essay are exactly what the name conveys. For this type of assignment, you will have to take a particular stance on the given topic and argue about it. Arguing is not the difficult part of this, though. The trouble here is that you have to prove what you are arguing about. You need to present solid evidence to support your argument.
There is no point in choosing a stance which is, as it is, obvious. An interesting argument will be that which manages to prove an unusual view on an existing subject. The more improbable your view is, the more interesting your argument will be. And needless to say that if you manage to establish your point, it will make your argumentative essay not only interesting but also quite impressive.
As for the research involved in writing this type of an essay, it depends upon various aspects like the subject, the topic in question and your knowledge of the topic. If you know enough about the topic already, for the purpose of proving your point, all you will need is to figure out the exact sources of the evidence you wish you use. You may straight away get on with writing the essay. But if you know what stance you wish to take but do not have any proof to give, then you are in for a bit of research.
The writing style also matters a lot when it comes to argumentative essay writing because you need to sound confident in order to convince someone in what you believe. It is easy to project confidence while talking but to be able to sound confident in a written document is a different matter altogether. For that, you will need to know when to be emphatic and where to apply stress.
Always remember that unless you manage to establish your point, your essay cannot be considered a successful argumentative essay. An argument is established only when it has been proved beyond doubt.
To be precise, a good argumentative essay is that which manages to convince someone and make them believe in what you say, even if they never believed in that view before. And more than arguing skills, what it takes to write an essay of this nature is the ability to write convincingly. A well-placed argument is easy to prove and interesting to write about.
