Writing a Personal Experience Essay
Friday, November 20, 2009 in All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
Out of the different types of assignments given to students, one would be that of a personal experience essay. As the name suggests, this essay focuses on a real experience that the person has had in the past. It comes under narrative essays, as you are narrating an experience. It is quite similar to an autobiographic essay.
There is one very obvious difference between an autobiographic essay and a personal experience essay. The former concentrates on you, where as, the latter has its focus on the experience you have had. To put it in another way, you could also say, a personal experience essay is more about what life has taught you; but an autobiographical essay talks about the kind of person you are and the way you lived your life. Even though it is not much of a difference, it is good if you understand where exactly to draw the line between both.
The most important thing to remember while writing an essay related to your own life is that it is not easy to make it interesting to another person. Personal experiences can be interesting while communicating verbally or between a group of people who knows each other. But while addressing a crowd who knows nothing about you, it is not so easy to make your life sound interesting. There is no reason why your experience should sound appealing to a stranger, unless you present it so. Hence, the most important part of writing an interesting personal experience essay is the presentation.
When you are given the theme, look back to see what all comes into your mind immediately. From the few you might be able to remember, pick one that is closest to the given topic or theme. Try to look at your choice from another person’s point of view to determine how well the experience matches with the topic. This is necessary because you may not be able to judge your own life very well from your own view point.
For a personal experience essay, it is not mandatory to give a separate introduction. If you feel that your experience needs an introduction, you can go ahead and give one. But you can also start off straight away with your narration of your experience. But make the first line intriguing enough to make the reader inquisitive about the rest of the content.
Your body paragraphs should be rich in narration. You should be able to take the reader through the incident rather than tell them about it. If you have good narration skills, a personal experience essay will indeed be a very easy assignment for you. But if you are not one of the lucky ones who can keep people still, for hours while they are talking, you should find out what you can do to improve your narration skills.
Your personal experience essay should be concluded with a brief note on what you learned from that experience and why you still remember it so vividly. Try not to include fresh parts of the story in the conclusion. Don’t end your assignment abruptly. Remember, a smooth ending is as important as a good beginning.

Writing an Essay on The Tempest
Thursday, November 19, 2009 in All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
William Shakespeare, the most celebrated playwright of all ages, has contributed so much to English literature that his works are considered a necessary part of all levels of English education. You will find that his plays have simple story outlines. But the complex plots within the story and the most extra ordinary narration methods make his plays the best among all literary works. ‘The Tempest’ is one of his comedy themed plays and also, one of the most famous among the lot.
To write an essay on the play, the first thing you need to figure out is the outline of the story. What makes this play stand out from the rest is the involvement of magic, in the plot. And this very fact makes the plot a bit complex, but all the more interesting.
The opening scene of ‘The tempest’ portrays the scene of a storm, referring to the title. We meet some of the main characters of the play, in this scene. King Alonso of Naples and his entourage, consisting of his brother Sebastian and his ill-natured friend Antonio and The king’s counselor Gonzalo, who is a gentleman, are caught in the storm. The storm splits their ship in half.
In the next scene you are introduced to Prospero, the rightful king of Milan, who was overthrown by his brother Antonio with the help of Alonso. He, with his, then two year old daughter Miranda, was abandoned in the sea and they had found refuge in this island where they have been living ever since. Miranda is now a fifteen year old girl, beautiful and kind in nature.
We soon learn that the tempest was magically conjured by Prospero, who was a magician. Even though he didn’t wish any ill to his enemies, he wanted them to accept their mistakes and repent. King Alonso and his entourage are spread out in the tiny island which contributes to the complexity of the plot of ‘The Tempest’.
Soon we meet Ferdinand, son of King Alonso, who is, but, a very good-natured and handsome young man. He meets Miranda, according to Prospero’s plan and both fall in love instantly. The romance between Miranda and Ferdinand adds to the beauty of the play. Prospero, who is happy for his daughter, does not reveal it till the end of the play. He puts Ferdinand through a few tests to make sure that he has not inherited any of the negative sides of Alonso.
Towards the end of the play, all characters come together. King Alonso, regretful about his past life, apologizes to Prospero and the play ends on a happy note with the marriage of Miranda and Ferdinand. Prospero returns to Milan, restored as the duke.
This is just a very thin outline of the story of the play ‘The Tempest’. While writing an essay on the play, you will have to study each of the scenes in detail and try to interpret the words of the great playwright in the best possible manner. Your essay will definitely show how much you know of the story. If you find the plot too difficult to follow, you should take advice from your teachers or someone else who can offer help with your assignment.

How to Write an Opinion Essay
All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
Opinion essay is a type of argumentative essay where you offer your opinion on the topic and establish it with relevant arguments. There are a lot of factors which contribute to a well-written assignment. Fulfilling the objective of the assignment is the most important criteria, of all.
An opinion essay will focus on your opinion on the given topic. This opinion, which might be positive or negative, should have enough factual evidence to support it. It does not matter if you prove that your opinion is right or not. What matters is that you make it worthwhile for your reader or audience. It is easy to convey your opinion. But the difficult part is to make it sound like an idea worth considering, to another person.
Opinion essays come with all kinds of subjects and topics as each individual has a different opinion about almost everything. There are many ways of presenting your opinion about a topic. You may apply a mixture of all those in your essay or focus on one particular method. Either way, an effective presentation will leave an impression of your opinion on the reader.
One way to go about expressing your opinion is to use comparison. Compare your opinion with that of others which are contradictory to your view and state why your opinion on the topic is different. You do not necessarily have to produce solid evidence but good evidence is always the best support for an opinion or argument. Consider that you could be arguing or opining against the popular opinion, while using comparison. Hence it will be ideal to provide some kind of proof to show that yours is the more sensible one.
You can also illustrate your idea in a manner whereby you use sources which offer similar or supportive opinion, in order to prove your view. This will suit those who have a tight deadline because it is easier to convey your idea using supportive sources than contradictory ones. Contradictory method will be more effective and impressive as it will show the depth of your knowledge of the subject and topic. It will also make you sound confident and sure of what you are talking about. But it will definitely take much more time and effort on your part to successfully use that method.
Using both supportive and contradictory sources together will be the best option, if you have the time and patience to do that. When you apply both these in your opinion essay, it becomes very easy to convey your opinion and make it sound interesting.
Opinions essays are all about your opinion but what makes it interesting is the way you present it. Understanding the particular type of essay project assigned to you is the first step to being able to write a good essay. It is up to you to make your readers want to read on till the end. Conveying your idea effectively is a skill you will need, in order to handle your academic writing assignments.

Writing an Outstanding Essay on Philosophy
Sunday, November 15, 2009 in All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
Philosophy, as you will find out during your course, is a very interesting subject to study. The subject is completely different from all other subjects. Writing essays on philosophical topics often prove to be a challenge due to the fact that there is no particular criteria by which you can judge a philosophical claim.
Philosophy stands out among all major subjects of study as a subject with absolutely no limitations. It is one of vaguest branches of science but at the same time highly in demand. It has proved to give people reason to find solutions where no practical theory can be of any use. You can say that philosophy is mainly dependant on logical reasoning. It does not demand any proof for its theories as there might be none.
But without any criteria at all, judgment is indeed difficult. This is the main challenge philosophy presents. To prepare an impressive essay on philosophy, you will have to keep aside quality time for it. Even though it has no boundaries, the condition remains that the reasoning or idea you put forth should be logical and it should make sense to those who hear it. It is not something you can manage overnight. Even if you do have some philosophical ideas, it will not be easy to convey it to another person for the sole reason that there is no visible evidence or examples that you can lay down to support your theory.
Since it is vague not only in its nature and borders but also in its recorded material, you will have to be extremely careful about the topic you choose or the idea you present as yours. It is quite possible that the idea you present is something very similar to something that has been used before. It is always ideal to have someone guide you through your process. Even though it is an extremely interesting subject to pursue, it is equally difficult to prepare for a research paper or essay on this subject. When it comes to a philosophical topic or presentation, what is good and what is not, is too much of a subjective matter. What sounds very good and impressive to you might sound completely useless for another person. Hence it is very necessary to be constantly in touch with your advisor to make sure that you are heading through the right path.
You should refer to philosophical journals and articles written by famous philosophers if you are finding it tough to generate ideas for your essay. You should go through a lot of sample essays to get a good understanding of how to present a philosophical idea. You should make reading a habit if you are planning to pursue philosophy as your main subject. Also, you should include as many philosophical books as you can, in your daily reading. Reading is the best method for developing your philosophical outlook and writing skills.
Writing an essay on philosophy is not an easy task. But it can be made much easier if you have the patience to handle it and also if you have the right person to guide you through the process. If you feel that it is beyond what you can manage on your own, you can take help with writing your essay, from professional writers.

How to Write an Admission Essay
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
Writing an essay requires a certain amount of skill. Essays are written for many purposes throughout a person’s life. But some of them happen to be more important and sometimes crucial than the rest of them. Admission essay is one such essay which can matter much more than an academic grade. For the same reason it is something that should be done very carefully.
As you might be aware, to get into a particular course, there are certain formalities which will have to be observed. It involves filling out forms and also, introducing yourself and your skills through a self-assessment essay. There is nothing much you can do to make the forms look particularly good because all you can do is, write down the details asked for. The admission essay, on the other hand, will be your chance to prove your caliber. So it is worthwhile to spend some time to prepare an impressive and interesting personal essay.
The most important thing to keep in mind while writing your admission essay is that the person at the other end does not know you. Your application is just one among a lot of other applications. So unless there is something in your essay that makes it stand out from the rest of them, it may not get noticed. The content you put into your essay should be interesting enough to grab the attention of the person who reads it.
The main task is to project your strengths and skills without making it sound like you are conceited. But being too modest about your skills will not help either as the committee has no way of knowing your good intentions. A very modest essay carries the risk of making you sound insecure or unsure of yourself. That will not work as you are aiming at convincing them of your potential worth.
You are expected to mention your weak spots as well. So, do it, but very tactfully. The trick is to make your limitations sound insignificant in comparison to your virtues. The best way is to ensure that there are more positive aspects than negative ones. Arrange the body paragraphs in such a way that your weaknesses are obscured and your talents and interest in the subject, highlighted. Avoid giving excuses for your failures or shortcomings. Mentioning it, will only make it sound like you are trying to attract sympathy.
While writing the admission essay, talk about your skills in the concerned subjects. It won’t help to talk about your talents and abilities in other areas. All that will matter is what makes you eligible to apply for that particular course. You have to prove that you are capable of handling the subjects which are a part of the syllabus of the course you are applying for.
Do not be repetitive. Repetitive discussion of the same point is not only boring but also unimpressive. Avoid coming back to one point again and again. And do not talk about irrelevant matters. It is very easy to write an admission essay as long as you have a good understanding of what it is aimed at and what is the expected content matter of this type of essay. You may take a look at some samples to get an idea of what a good admission essay should look like.

How to Write the Character Analysis of All the Characters in a Book
Monday, November 9, 2009 in All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
Character analysis is one type of essay assignment you will come across, very often, if you are pursuing English literature as your main subject. It is necessary to understand how to write this type of essay and what to include in it, as it is slightly different from normal essays, in content.
An analysis is what you understand of the topic in question. You will be expected to give your opinion which has evolved out of the given details in the book. Criticism will not be accepted as this is supposed to be just an analysis of the characters, as shaped by the author. So the main task is to read and understand the book, if you have to express your understanding of the characters in it.
This type of essay can come with guidelines asking you to focus on one particular character in a book or it could also ask you to analyze all the characters in it. The former type is rather easy because you will just need to study one particular character. But there is more effort involved in the latter type where you will be asked to study all the characters and give a detailed analysis.
As the first step, read the book many times to get a very good idea of the story. The first reading should ideally be a relaxed one. That is the best way to understand the story. Then you read it again and this time, take notes of all the characters in the story, as you read on. You may not be able to include all of them in your essay because there will be a page limit for your assignment. But if you have a list of all characters, when you sit down to write your essay, you can be sure of not having missed any of them.
Once through with that, you should arrange them according to the roles they have played in the story. Do this carefully, because those which end up last in the list might get omitted, if there is not enough space.
The central characters should be discussed elaborately. Their entry, role and exit should all be discussed in detail. Their nature and habits should also be mentioned. Since there will be a lot to be written about the main characters in the book, you can put them into separate paragraphs. But as you move down your list of characters, the detailing can be trimmed according to how less important the characters are. This solely depends on the number of sheets permitted for the essay. If you have enough space, there is no harm in giving a detailed analysis of all the characters. But make sure to stay within the page limit.
Since you will need to read the book more than once to be able to write a good essay, make sure not to keep it for the last day. You will have to go deep into the characters to be able to analyze them. It can be done easily if you keep aside enough time for it. Writing a character analysis can be a very interesting assignment if you dedicate enough time for it.

Writing an Essay on Macbeth
Sunday, November 8, 2009 in All About Essay by Cwriter | No Comments |
Shakespeare’s works are a genre in itself. His works are a part of all levels of education. For English literature students, it occupies a major portion of their syllabus. Shakespeare’s plays are so delightful that it is still considered among the best of all literary works of all ages. Macbeth is one of the most famous plays of all times. It will be a very interesting to write an essay on Macbeth.
To be able to write an essay on a play, you need to first understand the story line and the characters in it. The themes of almost all the plays written by Shakespeare are very complex, which has only added to its beauty and appeal. The most notable feature of his plays is the beauty of his narration which had made even the most complex plots, interesting and easy to follow.
Macbeth is the last of the four famous tragedies written by the famous playwright. The plot revolves around how Macbeth, a man of most genuine nature, is misguided and led to a life of deceit and selfishness. Towards the beginning of the play we meet the central character Macbeth as a person who is fully loyal to King Duncan. He is selfless in his service to the king.
But everything changes with the entry of the three witches, around whom the entire plot is knit. Their prophecies are misinterpreted by Macbeth, as was intended by the witches. They succeed in convincing Macbeth that he is destined to be the king. The witches skillfully lead Macbeth up the throne and then down to his grave through their constant interference and wicked planning.
Lady Macbeth, who assists Macbeth in his way up to the throne, is also highly influenced by the prophecies of the three witches. Unfortunately, they fail to see the hidden hints in the prophecies which always pointed at his inevitable and tragic end.
King Duncan who trusts Macbeth blindly, never suspects any of his intentions. Macbeth, in a hurry to fulfill the misinterpreted prophecy, murders King Duncan. The play takes a most tragic turn starting from the death of King Duncan. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, shocked by their own cruelty and ruthlessness, live the rest of their lives in guilt. The play ends with the tragic death of Macbeth.
Every single part of the play is so deep and intriguing that essays and research papers could be written on each one of them separately. There are other characters that appear for brief moments, like Macbeth’s closest friend, Banquo, who is also addressed by the witches in their prophecy. Banquo, unlike Macbeth, refuses to give in to the ambition injected by the witches, who proclaim that he is destined to become the father of kings.
The basic story line and the characters should be studied carefully before writing the essay. Even though it is very interesting to read Macbeth, studying the book and writing an essay on it may not be very easy. Make the best out of the complexity of the theme and the depth of characters, to make your essay on Macbeth, an interesting one.
