Argumentative essay writing is a bit different from other types of essay assignments. A normal essay project will require you to write on a particular lesson or text book you are studying. Your essay will be based on facts published by someone else, which you are only expected to learn and understand. But when it is an essay of argumentative nature, you are facing a slightly tougher task.

The characteristics and content of this essay are exactly what the name conveys. For this type of assignment, you will have to take a particular stance on the given topic and argue about it. Arguing is not the difficult part of this, though. The trouble here is that you have to prove what you are arguing about. You need to present solid evidence to support your argument.

There is no point in choosing a stance which is, as it is, obvious. An interesting argument will be that which manages to prove an unusual view on an existing subject. The more improbable your view is, the more interesting your argument will be. And needless to say that if you manage to establish your point, it will make your argumentative essay not only interesting but also quite impressive.

As for the research involved in writing this type of an essay, it depends upon various aspects like the subject, the topic in question and your knowledge of the topic. If you know enough about the topic already, for the purpose of proving your point, all you will need is to figure out the exact sources of the evidence you wish you use. You may straight away get on with writing the essay. But if you know what stance you wish to take but do not have any proof to give, then you are in for a bit of research.

The writing style also matters a lot when it comes to argumentative essay writing because you need to sound confident in order to convince someone in what you believe. It is easy to project confidence while talking but to be able to sound confident in a written document is a different matter altogether. For that, you will need to know when to be emphatic and where to apply stress.

Always remember that unless you manage to establish your point, your essay cannot be considered a successful argumentative essay. An argument is established only when it has been proved beyond doubt.

To be precise, a good argumentative essay is that which manages to convince someone and make them believe in what you say, even if they never believed in that view before. And more than arguing skills, what it takes to write an essay of this nature is the ability to write convincingly. A well-placed argument is easy to prove and interesting to write about.

Narration is the technique by which you present a story or an incident. It could be a story or a poem or it could even be a few scattered events which, when combined, forms a story. But the main aspect of narration is that it has to be said from the point of view of the narrator. There are instances where you will be asked specifically to narrate it from the point of view of another person. But unless it has been specified so, it is to be understood that the story is to be said, or narrated from your point of view. This is, indeed, the rule that applies to a narrative essay also.

While writing this type of essay, you will have to pay a lot of attention to the frame work or the outline of the story or event you are narrating. If the narration has to be smooth and interesting, it has to be in a proper order. If you are narrating a story, you should watch the thread of your narration. The order in which the paragraphs should be placed depends fully on the story in question, your level of education and also the kind of audience you are addressing.

Narration is an art. Those who have a flair for it finds it very easy to bring twists and turns in their narration and they also manage to surprise and sometimes shock the audience every now and then without confusing them. But if you are not sure of your narrative skills, it is always better to keep it simple. The body structure is important in all types of essays but it is even more so, in a narrative essay. The introduction can talk very briefly about what the narrative is about and some general facts about the narrative. The body paragraphs will contain the complete narrative and the conclusion will give a summary of the story or your opinion of the story. Remember to keep your opinion neutral and strictly avoid criticism.

Even though narration is an art, there are no skills which can’t be mastered, if you put in some effort. You can learn how to write a good narrative essay, if you understand the main aspects of this particular method of essay writing.

Many students confuse between a book report and a book review, even though the difference is quite evident from the names itself. A book review is where you read a book and convey your opinion of the book. It could include the positive as well as the negative aspects you find in the book. But while writing a book report you will be focusing on reporting the book as you have understood it.

You should keep it in mind while writing the report, that you are not there to criticize the book. You are merely conveying to the reader what you have understood about the book and the contents as you have seen it. You may write it in your own words and offer your opinion in a non-critical manner.

This particular type of project is easier compared to a research paper or a term paper because of the fact that you have to read and understand only one particular book. You will not have to spend hours searching for information amongst thick volumes of books, nor will you have to prove any point. Hence, with a little effort on your part, you can make a very good job of writing a book report.

Read the book twice, at the very least, in order to make sure that you have not forgotten to include any important points. After the first reading, prepare an outline with what you have understood. Then read it a second time and while at it, add the missing points to your outline as and when you find them. That way you can be sure of not having forgotten to mention any important part of the book in your report.

Once you have a complete outline, develop it into a rough draft. This rough draft can later be edited into a final draft. While editing the rough draft, cut it into the right size and make sure that you don’t delete any important portion of your report. Since it is a comparatively easy assignment, students tend to keep it for the last minute. This will not work though. A quick reading will not be enough for you to grasp the essence of the book. And relying on the articles written on the book by others and rewriting it in your own words also will not make your book report look impressive. To understand the book, you will have to read it yourself and write the report from your own point of view. Any professor can spot a paper which is just a reworded form of some other article.

Also remember to proof read your paper before submitting it. Spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and bad structure can make it difficult for the reader to follow what you are trying to convey. It will also make it look like you are not capable of handling even a simple assignment such as a book report.
