Tips on Writing Narrative Essays
Narrative essay writing is a type of academic essay writing activity in which you will be required to tap into your memory. Almost certainly, what will come to you first will be latest recollections. But it can also be possible to write about events or accounts that occurred a long time ago. You should be prepared to narrate even accounts that you unexpectedly witnessed. One of the best ways to come up with college essay topics for narrative essays is to think of a situation in which you were personally involved. This means that you should search your memory on what you experienced in school as well as out of school. This will be easily arrived at for students writing the academic essay. Remember that such moments are full of excitements and thrilling and memorable experiences.
Search through your memory. Look at situations in which you were confronted with an academic authority or a scholastic challenge. Was there anything learned from this experience? Think about your exploits with your friends. Think about your aspirations and inspirations in life. There are so many events in your life on which good narrative essays can be built on. Do some brainstorming. When you brainstorm, you try to come up with as many ideas as you can without any thought for their form or their practical applications. You just jot down ideas for a certain amount of time and see where your thoughts lead you. You can start with a suggestive word or phrase and list under that word or phrase as many ideas as occur to you.
If you still have difficulty narrating a meaningful experience, spend ten or fifteen minutes doing some free-writing. This means you have to simply write without stopping and this will be related to whatever comes into your mind. You should not be concerned in the sense of what you write. Just write and you will later use an essay outline to select what is meaningful and applicable to your essay from what is not.
A narration essay will also be best written from the perspective of a reporter. Ask who was involved? What happened? Where did it take place? When did it happen? Why did it happen? How did the events unfold? Keep in mind that as these questions are answered, there are pother possible questions that will spring from them and possible answers will also come up to buttress your essay. But make sure that you narrate something particular in which the readers would be more interested or things without which the situation would not have happened.
Narrative essay writing should be written in a chronological order. Always remember that certain events must unfold before others and these events must cause others to happen. The best way to narrate would be to recount events in their order of occurrence. This does not mean that you must narrate from start to finish in this manner. It is also possible that you can narrate an event and in the middle of it, you can recall another event to enhance a better understanding of what you are narrating. Also make sure you include names or persons, places and time.
