Writing an Impressive Argumentative Research Paper
Monday, February 8, 2010 in Research Paper Writing Guide by EssayCapital | No Comments |
If writing is a skill, argumentative writing is even more so. There are different types of argumentative assignments that are given out to students of all subjects. This type of assignment forces them to learn the subject thoroughly and learn even more as they are looking around for evidence to support their argument. There are a few things which you should remember while handling an argumentative research paper assignment.
1. Do not think that argumentative assignments are all about arguing. It is not. It is more about ‘proving your argument’. Nobody cares if you want to argue or not. They care only about whether you succeed in convincing them that your argument is genuine and acceptable. And for the purpose of convincing the reader, you need substantial evidence. You also need to use it at the right place and in the right manner to bring out the best of it.
2. It is easy to argue but not so easy to win an argument. Arguing is something most people are capable of. But not everyone can prove their point. In-depth knowledge of the subject and the topic is absolutely necessary for being able to win an argument. It is very difficult to convince someone of what you are thinking. You will find that people resist others’ ideas and opinions on principle. This is the barrier you will have to break through to accomplish the task of writing an effective argumentative research paper.
3. Arguing in writing is completely different from verbal arguments. Casual conversations or even debates are easier than argumentative writing assignments because in both you get the response immediately and you can adjust the level of defense of your argument according to the response. But in argumentative writing, you do not know if your audience or reader agree with your argument or not. You do not know if there would be a counter argument. So your task would be to judge your audience or reader accurately and think of what kind of counter arguments they can come up with and answer it all, in advance.
4. The presentation method is important in argumentative writing. Effective use of words is an important element of a good presentation. Only strong words that reflect confidence and your knowledge of the subject will complement your argumentative presentation.
5. Sources, in argumentative essay or research paper assignments, are to be used to support your arguments. And weak sources will give away when faced with counter arguments. Only the strongest of sources can withstand the pressure of judgment of an argumentative research paper. The factors which make a research paper source strong are its credibility, proximity to the particular aspect of the topic that is being studied and the author’s credentials in the relevant area of research. The author’s fame in the subject area would also add to the credibility of the source. In certain subjects the period in which the source was issued also affects the reliability of the data.
Effective writing is indeed a skill; and the impressiveness of your argumentative research paper is highly dependent on your argumentative writing skills. This should be kept in mind while you are writing out the final draft of your argumentative assignment.

The Importance of Citing the Sources in a Research Paper
Saturday, January 30, 2010 in Source Citation by EssayCapital | No Comments |
Research paper writing is an exercise which requires support and guidance from more knowledgeable sources. There is no research paper assignment which you will be able to complete without the use of sources. You will be referring to books, journals, online sources and even television documentaries to collect enough evidence to support your theory and to collect information on the topic you are researching on. It is mandatory to cite the sources you have used for your research, in your research paper document. This applies to each and every piece of information taken from any of the sources you used for reference.
It is not just enough to cite all the sources you use but it is important that you do it in the correct way. As you become familiar with the various styles of documentation, you will find that the main aspect that distinguishes each of the documentation styles is their method of citing the sources. It is not just the pattern that changes but also the title of the page in which you give the information on the sources. In some documentation styles it is presented as a reference page where as in certain other styles it is known as the bibliography. You will also learn how to make parenthetical references or in-text citations to suit the various styles of writing. It is extremely important to mention your sources in the method suggested by the manual of the style you are using for your research paper. If you fail to cite your sources in the appropriate manner, it will not be accepted. In normal cases the sources are to be cited as per the instructions given in the style manual. But you should always look out for specific instructions in the assignment guidelines regarding the bibliographical references.
It is quite natural for students to forget to mention all the sources. But whatever the reason is, academic assignments without complete bibliographical references will not be accepted. Understanding the importance of citing the sources will save you a lot of trouble. Using the information provided by a source without giving due credit to the author is considered as plagiarism. Unfortunately, plagiarism, intentional or unintentional, is considered a criminal offense. If you are caught with information which is not cited, you will be accused of plagiarism and punished duly. Hence it is not worth it to take a chance with it.
Certain documentation styles ask for sources to be cited twice, once as an in-text citation and then again in the bibliography page. In such cases you should make sure that both are done as per requirements. A style manual of the particular style you are using should be kept with you for reference while writing your research paper. Since each aspect about the pattern of citing the sources have been finely defined, without a style manual for reference, you will not be able to do it perfectly.
Citing the sources without fail is very important when it comes to research paper assignments. Academic research papers are meant to help you to get enough practice in research which will in turn help you move higher up in your academic career with ease. By paying enough attention to these writing assignments and putting enough effort into your research papers, you will be helping yourself.

Topics for your Research Paper on Shakespearean Sonnets
Thursday, January 21, 2010 in Research Paper Writing Guide by EssayCapital | No Comments |
Unlike essays where you are expected to study only a certain portion and prepare your essay, for the purpose of writing a research paper, you will have to present a view of your own with relevant arguments. An in-depth study and thorough understanding of the theme is necessary to be able to take a stance. And only an interesting view can help you to prepare a good research paper on Shakespearean sonnets.
Shakespeare’s sonnets are a collection of 154 poems of different themes. There have been many debates and researches done to establish whether these poems are autobiographical. But so far nothing has been proved on the topic even though most people argue that the poems are indeed autobiographical. There are many aspects of these sonnets which will make interesting topics for research.
One topic which is evidently the most difficult one to prove is on the autobiographical nature of Shakespearean sonnets. Various researches have been conducted on the topic but except for assumptions on the possibilities, nothing has been proved so far. So consider if you will be able to successfully prove your argument before choosing to write on the autobiographical nature of the poems.
The themes of the sonnets also make interesting topics for research papers. You can choose any one of the poems and interpret the poet’s words from your own point of view. Shakespeare’s writing style is such that every word can be interpreted in different ways. Hence it will be interesting to choose one sonnet and take a fresh view of the meaning of the poem and prove it. But unless you manage to find a new angle to it, you will not be able to generate interest in your audience.
Another option of a topic for your research paper on Shakespearean sonnets is to study and comment on any particular aspect of the sonnets. You can study the technical aspects and the alterations made in the old rules of sonnets, by the poet, to suit his style. You can also study the other writing techniques the poet has applied in these poems which include irony and pun. Remember that William Shakespeare was famous for his use of such techniques in his plays and poems.
There is also the option of studying the characters the poet has talked about in his sonnets, with respect to the assumption that the sonnets are autobiographical. But, while choosing the topic, remember that even though Shakespeare is one of the most famous poets of all times, almost all the facts about his life are under speculation. So it will be difficult to find credible information on the topic. Consider that aspect also before finalizing on your topic.
There will be no dearth of topics to choose from, when it comes to writing research papers on Shakespeare or his works. But make sure that the topic you choose fits into the instructions given in your research paper guidelines. Even the most interesting topic will not help if it does not suit the assignment guidelines. If you are finding it difficult to find a topic that suits you and the guidelines alike, you should consult your teacher. If not you should consider getting professional help to complete your research paper on Shakespearean sonnets.

Research Paper Writing – Tips on Time Management
Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in Research Paper Writing Guide by EssayCapital | No Comments |
All academic assignments are quite demanding but research paper assignments are even more so due to the research involved in it. Hence it is very important to organize yourself in order to make your research paper writing procedure an interesting experience.
The guidelines usually give instructions on the limitations and specifications of the assignment. But if you are hoping that the guidelines would also tell you how to go about your work, you are in for a disappointment. You are expected to find out the best method for you, on your own. Guidelines are only to tell you what your completed research paper should look like. How to make it look like that, will be up to you.
The step-by-step procedure is the most widely acknowledged method for easy handling of a research paper. The advantage of this method is that, since you have all the steps laid out in front of you, it will be much easier to organize your research. Time management is the first and most important part of organizing yourself.
The usual method of time management is to divide the amount of work you expect to be involved, between the number of days allotted for the research paper project. According to the workload, certain hours a day, would be kept aside for the assignment. This time chart works fine but for the fact that research is something of which the exact time cannot be determined in advance. When you plan your research by the number of hours per day, the confusion that can arise is that of the work not getting done as fast as planned.
For example, imagine that you have kept aside five hours every day for your research paper writing task, expecting to be able to complete the research with that much time. But you will be shocked to see how many hours go by without you making any progress with your research at all. It could be due to silly things like the long queue in the library or the non availability of a source which you were expecting to get that day. It is also possible that it is one of your bad days and you are not able to concentrate in your work. The five-hour per day limit will become hazardous to your research in such situations.
On the other hand, if you plan your research according to the number of pages to be completed each day, it would work better for many reasons. For one thing, there will be no worry of you falling behind schedule, as you will be finishing so many pages every day, irrespective of the time it takes. The other benefit is that, on certain days you will be able to finish faster and get some bonus free time, unexpectedly.
Considering these facts it would work out better, logically, to plan your research by the number of pages to be done each day than planning it by the hours to be kept aside for it. If you need any help with completing your research paper writing assignment, our writers will be able to guide you and assist you with the task.

Academic Writing Assignments – Recognizing Writer’s block
Sunday, December 20, 2009 in Research Paper Writing Guide by EssayCapital | No Comments |
Writer’s block is the most feared enemy of all writers. Even regular and professional writers are not safe from it. But students are more vulnerable to it as they don’t usually have the option of suggesting a comfortable deadline for their academic writing assignments. The non-flexible deadlines and fear about the outcome of the assignments usually set off the writer’s block in students.
How do you escape writer’s block? The answer would be that there is no more ways of escaping a writer’s block than there is to escape a common cold. Does it make it sound like an illness? It is, indeed, a psychological problem though not a grave illness. It is a way by which your mind tries to shut down to escape the immense pressure it is facing. That is the reason why it always happens at the worst of times. It usually happens with research paper assignments as it is a rather lengthy and tedious process.
The best way to cure a writer’s block is to face it rather than fight it. Fighting the onset of writer’s block has proved to have negative results and it has also been observed to be making the situation worse. So, instead of fighting it, accept it and try to cure it. And to accept it, you will need to be able to recognize it.
Unfortunately, most students misunderstand writer’s block as their inability or lack of knowledge. It makes them feel worried and depressed, adding fuel to the problem. They end up paranoid about the time which is sprinting towards the deadline and try hard to focus on their task without much success. The main issue here is that most of them do not realize the cause of their inability to write.
You can call it a writer’s block when you fail to start off the writing process due to an empty feeling in your mind. It even happens with subjects you are familiar with. While experiencing a writer’s block you will find that you are not able to focus on any of the aspects of the topic you are supposed to be writing your research paper on. If you try to focus, you will find that the concentration simply fails to find a foothold and keeps slipping off the topic.
But be warned that it does not always happen towards the starting stage of your work. A writer’s block can set in at any stage of writing. Hence it becomes cause for alarm. You would have taken every possible effort to stick to your research paper schedule and would be just days away from finishing it when the writer’s block happens. It would push you into the confusion which you had desperately tried to avoid. It will also completely mess up your remaining schedule, causing you the risk of missing the deadline of your academic writing assignment.
Once you recognize it and acknowledge it, it would become much easier to cure the writer’s block fast enough to save you much trouble with your academic writing assignment’s deadline. Hence, while facing a writer’s block, instead of wasting time telling yourself it is not happening, it is better to use that time to find a way out of it.

Tips for Dealing with your Academic Assignments
Saturday, December 19, 2009 in Research Paper Writing Guide by EssayCapital | No Comments |
Even though academic assignments are meant for a good purpose, students sometimes find it difficult to handle them and even get pressurized by the task. But every single one of them can be dealt with easily if you plan it well and avoid procrastination. There are certain tips to escape that point where you will have more work to finish in a day’s time than can be done in a week.
Timely handling of assignments are the first step to managing them well. When you are given an assignment, make a time sheet towards the process of completing it. And try to stick to it through out. Procrastination is one of the main issues faced by students. If it is a research paper assignment, remember to leave some extra time towards the end as research is a process which can sometimes drag on and on.
Use a step-by-step procedure to work on your assignment. Even though planning the procedure might sound like a waste of time to you, it is not so. The time you use for that will be paid back as an organized method is usually fail-safe.
The time sheet would help even more when you are given multiple assignments to be completed during the same time frame. Usually in such a situation students panic and try to do all at the same time or do not do anything about any of them till the last minute. This causes extreme last minute pressure which will result in poorly written assignments.
All students should understand the importance of academic assignments. It is not only meant to assess your knowledge of the subject but it also meant to teach you more about the subject you are learning. Research procedure is such that as you search you will learn a lot more, about the topic in hand, than what is taught in class. This knowledge will in turn help you as you progress in your studies. So instead of considering academic projects a waste of time, you should try and put as much effort into it as possible.
It is very important that your assignment sticks to all the given guidelines and is written in good language. Good language would, in this context, mean flawless and error-free language. Spelling mistakes and grammatical errors can make your assignment look very unimpressive and cause your grades to go down drastically. Spelling mistakes usually get overlooked when you are making a last minute job of it. And grammatical errors usually happen out of ignorance of the used language; mostly English. But no such excuses will be able to justify your mistakes. Hence the only way out is to keep aside enough time to edit and proof read your assignment before submitting it.
There might also be situations which come up unexpectedly delaying your progress with your academic assignments. Illnesses, family or personal issues or even a writer’s block can delay you indefinitely. This is something nobody can help. But giving excuses for not doing the assigned work does not create a very good impression. Hence in such situations you may consider taking help from professional academic writers to complete your academic assignment.
